My Most Fashionable Movies
Fashionista really stole my thunder on this, but I've been collecting pics for a while now of stills from movies whose fashion I find inspiring and/or breathtaking. Let me know if you agree/disagree or think I left something out
(1) Bonnie and Clyde: The most beautiful, glamorous, effortless gangsters I've ever seen. Warren Beatty's suits are impeccable, and I've never seen a woman so naturally beautiful as Faye Dunaway.
(2) Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie is too divine for words in this slow, southern tale. I couldn't find any good stills, but she spends the first half of the movie in tight, knee-length skirts that accentuate her incredible curves and impossibly cinched waistline.
P.S. Paul Newman is a super babe in this movie. God love beautiful, tortured men.
p.s. I still have not figured out how to work this blog. The stupid thing keeps screwing up my formatting! Too tired to fix now. Will straighten up tomorrow. sigh.
UPDATE: Ta da! Fixed. But note to self: putting a ton of pictures artfully in a blog post takes 4 hours longer than you expect.

(3) The Talented Mr. Ripley: Matt Damon, Gwenyth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett as rich young Ivyleaguer brats sunning themselvesin Italy for the summer in the 1950s. Everything is crisp and white on perfectly chiseled bodies. Matt Damon wears the greatest glasses, Gwenyth is painfully beautiful, and the mens' haircuts are superb.
(4) The Royal Tenenbaums / The Darjeeling Limited: Both Wes Anderson movies with the same cinematography and color palette. I love the vintage feel of everything but also the bright vibrant colors. P.S. Those suitcases were made specially for the movie by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton.
(5) Breakfast at Tiffany's: I mean really, how could you do a list like this without Tiffany's? I'm simply wild about Tiffany's! Always chic, always classic. Audrey's outfits in this movie are so simple, often involving a solid black piece of some kind. But they're absolute perfection. So is her perfectly coiffed hair.

This is a really cool idea, and I'll just give you full credit for that ;)
ReplyDeleteI gotta do some incubating, but I totally agree with yours. I love G.Paltrow's character's style in the Tenenbaums.
I'm just disappointed you didn't take a minute to salute the awesomeness of Paul Newman.
ps- the formatting gives me a really hard time too! The preview isn't the same as how it really looks...
ReplyDeleteexactly! what a faker!
ReplyDeleteI apologize for the lack of Newman worshiping. I do, in fact, worship Paul Newman - especially in Cat. My brain must have been too preoccupied with formatting frustration. I'll leave it to you to do him justice ;-)
